Compression Fixtures

Compression Fixtures

Automated Solutions, Inc. designs and manufactures advanced seat compression fixtures to streamline the automotive seating assembly process. These fixtures assist operators in compressing seat foam and securing components like trim covers, IEE mats, or backframes. Each fixture is tailored for specific vehicle variants and includes custom tooling nests, retractable locating pins, and clamping mechanisms. Operators can easily rotate or tilt the nests using foot pedals or Opto-touch buttons, ensuring ergonomic operation and optimal alignment of components during assembly.

The fixtures incorporate Allen-Bradley PLCs for precise control and are available with optional HMI touchscreens for enhanced diagnostics and operator guidance. For example,  2nd Row RSB Compression Fixtures includes a rotating feature similar to a rotisserie, allowing the foam to be flipped and compressed for hog ringing. Meanwhile, the 40% RSC fixtures employ pneumatic or manually hinged platens with cylinders to apply consistent compression forces—up to 12 PSI in some cases—to meet exacting manufacturing standards.

Additional enhancements such as part present sensors, barcode integration, MES communication, and vision verification systems ensure quality and traceability throughout the assembly process. Optional features include light-guided placement using lasers or LED profile lights, adjustable ergonomic jacks, and 3rd party guarding. Designed for efficiency, repeatability, and operator ease, these compression fixtures exemplify the commitment to quality and innovation in modern automotive manufacturing.
